Tampa Bay Storm to host open tryout February 20

With the return of Arena Football to the Tampa Bay community this spring, the Tampa Bay Storm will host an open tryout, Saturday, February 20 at Skyway Park in Tampa.  The team is looking to find a future star as the Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum puts together his roster for the upcoming 2010 season.

“The 2010 season is quickly approaching and I can’t wait to get back on the sidelines to watch our guys compete for a sixth title,” said Marcum.  “We are looking to find a future star to join some of our marquee players such as Brett Dietz, Hank Edwards and Tyrone Timmons.”

This one-day tryout is open to all interested players.  All players will receive the opportunity to sign a professional contract with the Storm.  Former open tryout players to play for the Storm include current standout wide receiver Hank Edwards, four-time ArenaBowl Champion and current Boca Ciega High School head coach Stevie Thomas.

The camp will be directed by Tim Marcum.  The coaching staffs will evaluate players in combine exercises such as the 40-yard dash, broad jump, shuttle runs and position drills.

Interested players are encouraged to pre-register at www.tampabaystorm.com.  Pre-registration ends Friday, February 19 at noon.

Players can also register at Skyway Park the morning of the tryouts.  Registration will begin at 8 a.m., payment is $60 for players who pre-register online and $70 for those registering the day of the event.  Payment must be by cash.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

** Participants will receive a t-shirt for the tryout
** The tryout will be conducted on artificial turf, so participants are encouraged to wear appropriate footwear (No Cleats)
** Please plan on 3-5 hours for the tryout
** Please bring plenty of water, as it will not be provided
** A trainer will be on hand for emergencies only – not for player taping
** There is no full-contact, thus, no need for shoulder pads or helmets
** Kickers will be evaluated during this tryout

The Storm kickoff the 2010 season on Saturday, April 3 when they invade Tulsa and take on the Talons.  The Storm return home to the confines of the St. Pete Times Forum for its home opener Friday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m.  Season Tickets start as low as $50!
