GAME RECAP

Despite a furious fourth quarter, the Tampa Bay Storm (6-6, 3-3) could not overcome a slow start and fell to the Jacksonville Sharks (6-5, 3-2) by a score of 71-61 Saturday evening in front of 11,080 fans.

Recently activated quarterback Nick Hill took charge of the Storm offense late in the first quarter after the team stumbled out of the blocks. He finished the game 25-of-32 for 321 yards, four touchdowns and an interception. His primary target was Chandler Williams who had a big game as he surpassed 300 all-purpose yards and led all receivers with 11 catches for 161 yards. South Florida standout Amarri Jackson pitched in nine receptions for 103 yards and a score while Prechae Rodriguez caught four passes for 43 yards.

Receiver Bobby Sewell set the pace on the evening for the Sharks scoring a 38-yard touchdown on the second play of the game and later adding a 43-yard touchdown. The Sharks pounded the ground with four rushing touchdowns, including two by quarterback Bernard Morris. Rendrick Taylor and Western Michigan’s Jamarko Simmons also scored on the ground. Morris finished the game 17-of028 for 259 yards, six touchdowns and and interception.

GAME NOTES

• QB Nick Hill threw for 321 yards in his Storm debut despite not starting the game, he is the second quarterback to surpass the 300 yard barrier in a debut.
• WR Chandler Williams surpassed 300 all-purpose yards; he is the first Storm player to accomplish that feat this season. …He also returned his third kickoff for a touchdown this season and for the second game in a row. … He has now scored a touchdown in 11 consecutive games.
• DB Erick McIntosh entered the game second in the AFL with 16 pass break ups, he finished the evening with two PBUs and an interception.
• WR Amarri Jackson extended his consecutive games with a catch to 24 games as he eclipsed 100 yards receiving for the second time this season.
• WR Prechae Rodriguez saw his consecutive games with a touchdown reception snapped at 10 games.
• DL Pernell Phillips recovered his first fumble of the season and added a tackle for a loss, giving him a team leading nine for 56 yards.
• OL George Bussey extended his streak of games without surrendering a sack to 14 games, stretching back to last season
• Tampa Bay is now 6-0 at home and 0-6 on the road.
• Tampa Bay scored four rushing touchdowns, that is the most in a game this season. …The team has four games with three rushing touchdowns.

LAST TIME OUT

The Tampa Bay Storm rebounded from their first pair of back-to-back losses on Saturday night to return above the .500 mark and move into a tie atop the South Division, as they defeated the Milwaukee Mustangs 63-55 in front of a crowd of 10,406 on Amalie Motor Oil Field at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

Amarri Jackson emerged as Tampa Bay’s leading receiver on the night, as he reeled in six balls for 85 yards and three scores. Prechae Rodriguez also had a big night receiving for the Storm, catching five passes for 58 yards and two scores, while Chandler Williams returned seven kickoffs for 185 yards, including one to the house that earned the distinction of Spalding’s Highlight of the Game.
