GAME RECAP

Looking to extend their current winning streak to four games, the Tampa Bay Storm couldn’t duplicate their performance from each of the past three weeks on Friday night, as the team fell to the San Jose SaberCats by a 64-34 score at HP Pavilion.

After winning four of its previous five games, the loss dropped Tampa Bay to 5-3 on the year. The Storm will now have to wait until tomorrow night and hope that Jacksonville loses to San Antonio in order to remain just one game behind the division-rival Sharks in the South Division race.

GAME PREVIEW

This will be the 16th time these two teams have faced each other. They last met in Tampa on July 23, 2011, a game in which the Storm won 57-44. While the SaberCats holds an 8-7 advantage over Tampa Bay, the Storm has outscored San Jose by a margin of 55 points over the course of the series.

The Storm heads into this matchup as one of the hottest teams in the league having won three straight, two of which were on the road. The team is 2-0 against the Western Division with wins against the Utah Blaze and the Spokane Shock. A win over the SaberCats would give the team a sweep of the division for the first time since 1998.

In order to get the win, the Storm will once again rely on its quarterback Adrian McPherson. In last week’s game versus the VooDoo, McPherson increased his league leading rushing touchdown total to 21, with a four touchdown performance...

Last Time Out

The Tampa Bay Storm had more reason than just Cinco de Mayo to celebrate Saturday night.

Coming off two straight wins, the team reveled in the jubilation of a third consecutive victory after defeating the South Division-rival New Orleans VooDoo 63-32 in front of a crowd of over 10,000 at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

The victory, coming perhaps in what was Tampa Bay’s best all-around game all year, helped the club improve to 5-2 on the season, just one game back of the in-state rival Jacksonville Sharks for first place in the South Division standings.

New Orleans, meanwhile, dropped to 1-5 on the year, with its 32 points on Saturday night being its lowest total on the season thus far to date.

“We’re going to enjoy this one,” Storm head coach Dave Ewart said. “I’m proud of the guys. I thought they executed well in all aspects of the game and thought we cleaned a lot of stuff up that we needed to in order to get this victory.”
