GAME RECAP

The Tampa Bay Storm did what it had to do early on tonight against the Spokane Shock to give itself a chance to win, but the Storm could not finish business.

On the game’s first possession, Storm defensive back Vance Cuff stepped in front of Shock quarterback Erik Meyer’s pass. The following possession would lead to a Michael Lindsey touchdown catch.

More good fortune came the Storm’s way when Chris Davis recovered a kickoff with under a minute left in the first half after the ball took a Storm bounce off of the field goal post.

Storm quarterback Randy Hippeard would run it in from one yard out a couple plays later, putting Tampa Bay up by 14 with 28 seconds remaining in the half.

Then came the game’s turning point...

GAME PREVIEW

TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Storm (7-7, 2-3) takes on the Spokane Shock (10-4, 4-2) this Saturday, July 6 during Local Heroes Night at the Tampa Bay Times Forum...Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM ET.

This will be the fifth meeting between the two squads, and the first in Tampa Bay. The Shock defeated the Storm in ArenaBowl XXIII. While the overall series is tied at two games apiece, the Storm leads the regular season series, 2-1. The Shock has outscored the Storm by a total of five points over the four game history.

The two teams met earlier this season in Spokane back on April 27, where the Storm beat the previously undefeated Shock by a score of 70-62. The Storm defense was the difference, holding the Shock to just seven points in the first half and forcing quarterback Erik Meyer into two interceptions. Prior to that, Meyer had not thrown a pick in 193 pass attempts. Currently, Spokane leads the league in passing efficiency, throwing just seven interceptions on the season. However, the Storm’s defense backfield can create turnovers and it has tallied 23 interceptions, good for second in the league...

LAST WEEK'S PERFRORMANCE

Two teams took the field at the Tampa Bay Times Forum that, on paper, where evenly match and that is exactly how the game went.

It could have been predicted that it would come down to the last play tonight between the Tampa Bay Storm and Chicago Rush, and that it did.

In the fourth quarter the Storm defense held strong and forced a turnover with an interception by defensive lineman Tremaine Johnson. The Storm would then take a 49-42 lead with 4:28 remaining in the game on a Michael Lindsey touchdown grab.

But Chicago would not go down quietly and drove the ball down the field to the one yard line with under a minute left.
