Game Recap

TAMPA BAY – Spokane quarterback Erik Meyer threw for six touchdowns, two each to Adron Tennell and Brandon Thompkins as the Shock (4-2) defeated the Tampa Bay Storm (3-4), 53-41, Saturday on the Amalie Motor Oil Field in the Tampa Bat Times Forum.

Randy Hippeard led the Storm who have now lost three in a row will host the expansion Portland Thunder next Saturday. The Thunder won its first Arena Football League game of the season at Jacksonville Saturday, 69-62.

Michael Lindsey broke the all-time kickoff return yardage mark in the third quarter. He finished the night with five returns for 55 yards and would bring his season total to 5,138 yards. LaFrance set his record in six seasons, with mostly 12 games a year.

Lindsey has done it in three and one-half seasons, playing in 18, 10, 17 and seven games this season. He ended with 55 yards and now has a total of 5,138.

Game Notes

  • With the 53-41 loss to Spokane, the Tampa Bay Storm is now 2-4 all-time versus the Shock and 1-3 versus its head coach Andy Olson.
  • Shock head coach Andy Olson lost his only challenge of the game.  Opposing coaches have yet to win a challenge in a Storm game this season.
  • Tampa Bay kick returner Michael Lindsey set the franchise career record for kickoff return yards surpassing AFL Hall of Famer and Storm great George LaFrance total of 5,116.  Lindsey currently has 5,138.
  •  Storm WR T.T. Toliver led all receivers with 10 catches.  He finished the evening with 112 yards and a touchdown.  Toliver is marching up the AFL All-Time career lists as he currently is fifth all-time in receiving yards, sixth all-time in receptions and ninth all-time in career touchdowns.
  • Tampa Bay FB/LB Dexter Jackson recorded his first sack of the season while Rodney Beamon added another to place second on the team with 2.5.
  • Storm WR Joe Hills caught five passes for 45 yards and a touchdown to move into sixth all-time in team history with 56 TDs and seventh in receiving yards with 2,673.
  •  Hills now has a TD in 24 consecutive games.
