The Tampa Bay Storm is pleased to announce its 2017 regular season schedule which kicks off on Saturday, April 8 on the road versus the Cleveland Gladiators.
“The Storm is happy to announce its 2017 regular season schedule,” said team president Derrick Brooks. “The League has seen changes over the past year, but one thing that remains consistent is the unwavering support of our fans. With Coach Ron James at the helm, we look forward to fielding a competitive team that fans can be proud of and believe in.”
This season the Arena Football League will field a 14-game schedule for the first time since the 2002 season. Each team will receive four byes over the course of the 18-week season, with the postseason starting in August.
Fans will see many changes in the AFL this season, the first being the number of teams associated with the League. For the first time since 1989, the AFL will have five teams in play. The League will be comprised of the Storm, Gladiators and the Philadelphia Soul. New for 2017 is the Washington Valor and a team that will be located in Baltimore.
The Storm will kick off the season at Cleveland on Saturday, April 8. The team will return for a Saturday evening matchup on Saturday, July 8. Over the course of the season, the Storm will take on the Gladiators four times, playing host on Saturday, April 22 and Saturday, July 22.
Tampa will face the Valor a total of four times, including a back-to-back matchup that will see the Storm head to Washington on Saturday, May 13, followed by a home matchup on Saturday, May 20. The Storm will play host again on Saturday, June 10 and Saturday, July 1.
The newest AFL franchise, located in Baltimore, will head to Tampa on Saturday, June 3, with the Storm heading north for a matchup with Baltimore on Sunday, May 7 and Saturday, July 15.
Finally, the Storm will face the defending ArenaBowl Champion, Philadelphia Soul, a total of three times. The first matchup will occur in Saturday, April 15, when AMALIE Arena opens its doors for the Storm’s home opener. The Storm will head to Philadelphia on Saturday, June 17 and close out the regular season versus the Soul on Saturday, August 5.
This season the Storm will play a total of 14 regular season games. Most games will be played on Saturday nights, with one game being played on a Sunday afternoon in Baltimore.
