TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Storm is pleased to host the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida Saturday, May 5th prior to the game against the Orlando Predators at the Tampa Bay Times Forum in downtown Tampa.
From 2 PM to 5 PM, 80 girls in grades 2 thru 10 will learn football basics at a Storm Skills Clinic, including position and alignment; how to run routes and catch a football; and the basics of handling and protecting the football. They will also try on football protection gear and have a chance to interact with some of the Storm players. One of the highlights of the day will be when the girls play each other in flag football games on Amalie Motor Oil field, the same field as the pros. The days’ events also include dinner and tickets to that night’s Storm game against the Orlando Predators.
“We’re thrilled to partner with the Tampa Bay Storm again this year to bring this event to girls throughout the Bay area,” said Amber Van Denzen, program pathways manager with Girl Scouts of West Central Florida. “Football is big in the Tampa Bay area, and this is a fun way to get girls involved in a way they may not have been before.”
Girl Scouts of West Central Florida’s partnership with the Tampa Bay Storm coincides with the council’s healthy living program emphasis. Every girl deserves to live a healthy life – emotionally and physically. Girl Scouts helps girls keep their bodies healthy, their minds engaged and their spirits alive.
Whether it’s girls learning to snorkel or play football, or teen girls coming together with experts to discuss healthy relationships, Girl Scouts’ healthy living programs are designed to help girls gain practical life skills and empower them to make a difference in the world.
