TAMPA BAY – The Arena Football League announced today that Tampa Bay Storm quarterback Randy Hippeard was named the 2017 Arena Football League MVP and Offensive Player of the Year.
Hippeard (6-foot-3, 205 lbs., UVA-Wise) entered his fifth season in the Arena Football League and third with the Storm. The four-year veteran began his career with Tampa Bay in 2013 and spent two seasons with the team before moving on to the Orlando Predators for the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
The Stafford, Virginia native put together his finest season, leading the League in several passing categories including passing yards per game (250.4), passing yards (3,506), pass attempts (494) and pass completions (328).
Known for efficiency, Hippeard finished second in the League with a efficiency rating of 119.8, throwing 80 touchdowns to just eight interceptions. Hippeard also has the ability to get the job done on the ground, rushing for 120 yards and seven touchdowns
Offensively, Hippeard led the League in total offense with 3,626 yards, averaging 259.0 yards per game. Over the course of the season, Hippeard accounted for 87 of the Storm’s 104 total touchdowns.
These are Hippeard’s first postseason League awards.
