The return of Tampa native Prechae Rodriguez proved to be a key asset to the Storm this week, but it wasn’t enough to help the team win their rematch against rival Orlando on Friday night.

The Storm (1-11) attempted to earn their second win of the season going into the bye week but fell short, losing to the Predators 56-33.

Another rough start in the first quarter hurt the team the most. A score early in the game followed by an Orlando (11-2) interception gave the Predators a 14-0 lead at the end of the first.

Rodriguez stepped things up in the second quarter starting with a 6-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jason Boltus. He would follow that with another score off of a 10 yard kickoff return to bring the Storm back into the game.

A 12-yard rush by Orlando quarterback Bernard Morris and a final score by Greg Carr put Orlando back up on top though, with the Preds leading 35-20 at the end of the first half.

The Storm tried hard to come back in the second half, but the Predators finished the game strong scoring three more times to take the win. The team of Morris, Carr and Brandon Thompkins for Orlando were difficult to stop, particularly Morris and his rushing style of play. Morris completed 16-of-23 passes for 131 yards along with five touchdowns and rushed six times for 31 yards and three touchdowns.

The Storm was led by Rodriguez and Kendrick Ings, who both returned to the team this past week. Rodriguez finished the night with 13 catches for 113 yards and three touchdowns along with a 10-yard onside kick return for another score. Ings finished with six kickoff returns for 107 yards and four catches for 31 yards.

Wide receiver T.T. Toliver continues his quest toward becoming the AFL’s all-time leader in all-purpose yards with just 14 more to reach the mark.

After the bye week, the Storm will look to bounce back when it travels west to take on the Los Angeles KISS on Monday, July 11. Kickoff is scheduled for 10 p.m.
