TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Storm has acquired defensive linemen Torrey Davis and Jerry Turner announced vice president of football operations Jeff Gooch.

“Torrey is an excellent player that gives us additional skill in our pass rush,” said Gooch.  “He has a high motor and his ability to get to the quarterback are welcome additions to our defense.”

Davis (6-foot-3, 320 lbs., Jacksonville State), a local product from Armwood H.S. (Seffner, FL), enters his rookie season in the Arena Football League with the Storm.  He spent the past five seasons in the Canadian Football League, most recently with the 2015 Grey Cup Champion Edmonton Eskimos.  He began his professional career in 2010 when he signed as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League.

The Seffner native began his collegiate career at the University of Florida where he won a BCS National Championship (2009).  He would play two seasons with the Gators before transferring to Jacksonville State.  Davis appeared in 10 games for the Gamecocks, recording 16 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, a pass breakup and fumble recovery.

Turner (6-foot-3, 260 lbs., Tennessee Tech) enters his 10th season in the AFL and first in the blue and gold.  The nine-year veteran comes to Tampa after spending the past three seasons with in-state rival Jacksonville Sharks.

“Jerry brings veteran leadership to our locker room and defensive line,” said Gooch.  “His ability to apply pressure on opposing offensive lines will help our entire defensive unit.”

During his time with Jacksonville, Turner started in 47-of-49 games and accumulated 86.5 tackles, 28.0 tackles for loss, 22.5 sacks, eight fumble recoveries, six forced fumbles and five blocked kicks.  He saw his best season in 2013 when he earned All-Arena honors finishing third in the League in sacks (12.0), tied for third in forced fumbles (5) and fumble recoveries (4), and fourth in tackles for loss (14.5).

Turner began his AFL career in 2003 as a member of the Las Vegas Gladiators.  He would spend time with the Kansas City Brigade (2007-08), Spokane Shock (2010) and the Georgia Force (2011-12).  For his career, Turner has tallied 176.0 tackles, 49.0 tackles for loss, 40.5 sacks, 19 forced fumbles, 16 fumble recoveries and 11 pass breakups.  He also won an ArenaBowl Championship as a member of the Shock in 2010.

The Birmingham, AL native played collegiately at Tennessee Tech where finished his career ranked second all-time with 29.0 sacks.
