Storm vs. Force Keys to the Game

Mar 16, 2012 Jake Perper

The Storm host the Georgia Force in their home opener tonight at 8 p.m. at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

Here are some keys to the game.

Key 1: Limit turnovers

The Storm turned the ball over five times in their season opener against the Chicago Rush. Those five turnovers proved to be very costly in the 70-48 loss to the Rush. Mistakes are expected in the first game of the season, but now its time focus on getting a home victory tonight. Taking care of the ball will help the Storm keep the tempo going in this one.

Key 2: Get off to a fast start

Against the Rush, the Storm weren't able to get things going early on. They fought back and took a 35-28 lead into the half. But they need to establish the momentum from the start. QB Stephen Wasil combined for seven touchdowns through the air and ground last week. It would be nice to get more touchdowns from him on the first couple of drives tonight.

Key 3: Take advantage of the home field

Through six games of the AFL season, home teams are a combined 4-2. The Storm went 4-5 in home games a season ago, but hold a 116-47 all-time record on their home turf. The Storm saw WR Prechae Rodriguez pull down 186 yards and three touchdowns last week. He needs to generate a similar performance against Chicago in his first home game as a member of the Storm. The game won't be a gimme, but with the home crowd on the Storm's side it could help just a bit.
