TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Storm is pleased to announce that defensive lineman James McClinton, has earned Riddell Defensive Player of the Week and AFL Highlight of the Week honors for his performance in the Storm’s 41-40 victory over the Portland Steel.
Riddell Defensive Player of the Week: McClinton (6-foot-1, 285 lbs., Kansas) led the Storm defense in the team’s 41-40 victory over the Portland Steel. While he recorded just a half tackle, the six-year veteran made two outstanding plays that would help the Storm earn its second victory of the season. McClinton blocked an extra point on the Steel’s first scoring drive and then on the final possession he would help preserve the team’s win with a block on the potential game-winning field goal.
AFL Highlight of the Week: McClinton would come up big on a crucial final play versus the Portland Steel. With 3.9 seconds left in regulation, and the Storm holding on to a one-point lead, Portland lined up for a potential 23-yard game winning field goal. McClinton would break through the line, reaching up and blocking the field goal attempt. The blocked field goal preserved the team’s second win of the season, giving the team momentum heading into its matchup versus the Jacksonville Sharks this Saturday, July 30.
These are McClinton’s first two weekly awards this season.
